11 feb 2023 IELTS exam evening slot

The table shows the weekly expenses of a retired single person and a couple in Australia for a comfortable lifestyle. The data compares the cost of living for the two groups for various categories such as food, housing, transportation, health care, and miscellaneous expenses.

The main feature of the data is that the weekly expenses for a couple are higher than those of a single person in most categories. For instance, the couple’s weekly expenses for food are approximately $70, while the single person’s expenses are roughly $40. In the case of housing, the couple’s expenses are almost double that of the single person, with a weekly cost of $180 compared to $90.

Additionally, there is a significant difference in the miscellaneous expenses for the two groups. The couple’s expenses for this category are about $100 per week, while the single person’s expenses are only $30. On the other hand, the expenses for transportation and health care are similar for both groups, with the couple spending slightly more in both categories.

In conclusion, the data shows that a couple’s cost of living is higher than a single person’s in most categories, with a particularly large difference in the miscellaneous expenses category. However, there are some categories such as transportation and health care where the expenses are similar for both groups.

Writing task 2

The preventing and reducing global environmental damage lies with politicians, as there are very little the individuals can do about this problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

11 feb 2023 IELTS exam evening slot

Sample Answer

The issue of global environmental damage is a pressing concern that requires immediate attention and action. There is a popular belief that preventing and reducing such damage is primarily the responsibility of politicians, and that individuals have limited capacity to make a significant impact. In this essay, I will examine this view and express my agreement or disagreement with it.

On one hand, politicians play a crucial role in addressing environmental issues. They have the power to create and implement policies and regulations that can mitigate the impact of human activities on the environment. For example, they can enforce emissions standards for industries, promote sustainable energy sources, and implement penalties for environmental violations. These actions can have a significant impact on reducing global environmental damage.

However, I also believe that individuals also have a role to play in addressing this problem. Small actions taken by individuals can cumulatively have a significant impact on the environment. For instance, individuals can reduce their carbon footprint by using public transportation, reducing their consumption of single-use plastics, and supporting sustainable products. They can also advocate for environmental policies through their voting choices and by speaking out on the issue.

In conclusion, while politicians have a crucial role in preventing and reducing global environmental damage, individuals also have a significant impact. Both groups must work together to create a sustainable future for our planet. Political action and individual action are complementary, and both are necessary to make a real difference in addressing environmental issues. In my view, the solution to global environmental damage lies in the collective efforts of both politicians and individuals.
